چکیده

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of corneal cross-linking on keratoconic eyes in the pediatric age group. Setting: Private laser center, Haifa, Israel, affiliated to Hadassah Hospital, Jerusalem. Methods: This is a retrospective study of 29 eyes of 20 children treated with corneal cross-linking with aim to arrest the progression of keratoconus. We preformed collagen corneal cross-linking using riboflavin 0.1% and UVA irradiation. Followup ranged between 6 and 46 months (mean 25.5 months). Evaluation included uncorrected visual acuity, best spectacle corrected visual acuity, manifest refraction, slit lamp examination and corneal topography. Ocular response analyzer was used to assess the corneal resistance factor, corneal hysteresis and cornea compensated intraocular pressure. Results: The results show improvement in uncorrected visual acuity and best spectacle-corrected visual acuity and reduction in astigmatism. There was no statistically significant change in sphere, keratometry, corneal resistance factor, corneal hysteresis or cornea compensated intraocular pressure. Conclusion: Corneal cross-linking demonstrates efficacy in arresting the progression of keratoconus as well as improving uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity and reducing astigmatism.

An Update on the Safety and Efficacy of Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking in Pediatric Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a degenerative disease that affects adolescents and young adults and presents with variable thinning and conical deformation of the corneal apex. The resultant irregular astigmatism can progress to levels that can significantly affect everyday activities and overall quality of life. Therefore, stopping the progression of the disease is an essential part in managing patients with ...

Evaluation of Corneal Aberrometry Parameters Before and After Cross-Linking in Patients with Keratoconus

Background and Objective: In the last decade, cross-linking (CXL) has been widely used for treating people with progressive keratoconus. The present study aimed to compare corneal aberrometry parameters before and after CXL in patients with keratoconus. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 67 patients with keratoconus referred to Farshchian Sina Medical Education Center, Hamad...

Corneal melting after collagen cross-linking for keratoconus: a case report

INTRODUCTION Corneal collagen cross-linking is a rather new technique that uses riboflavin and ultraviolet A light for collagen fiber stabilization in keratoconus corneas. Other than reversible side effects, the preliminary results of corneal collagen cross-linking studies suggest that it is a rather safe technique. In this report, we demonstrate a case of corneal melting after corneal collagen...

One-year follow-up of accelerated transepithelial corneal collagen cross-linking for progressive pediatric keratoconus

BACKGROUND Keratoconus typically presents in the teenage years and is more advanced in younger patients when compared with adults. In the present study, we aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of accelerated transepithelial corneal collagen cross-linking (ATE-CXL) in children with progressive keratoconus. METHODS In this retrospective consecutive study, 18 eyes were enrolled from 17 pediat...
